Baratos Afins

Centro, São Paulo

The fount of Rock

I got to know "Baratos" the very first time I went to the Rock Gallery. I used to live upstate in Bragança Paulista at that time when the Internet was still crawling, and there was where you could find anything related to Brazilian or Universal musical History.

It was there where I bought the albums of Walter Franco, Itamar Assumpção, Júpiter Maçã, Fellini, Serge Gainsbourg, Sergio Sampaio, Françoise Hardy, Stereolab.

A fundamental store for my musical development, when I started to release albums it was a dream to have them there. International as well as Brazilian bands often go there when they are in São Paulo.

When I have the time, I show up at the Gallery go over to "Baratos" to talk to Master Calanca.

Viajo highlights

Luiz Calanca, the owner of Baratos Afins, is a Rock institution himself in São Paulo. His store is there since the beginnings of the Gallery, and because of that he knows all the musicians, stories, disagreements and the conquests of many of the great ones in history. It is worth to pay a visit to the store only to drink from Calanca's wizdom font.
